I had the same problem, but I found out that it happened after installing another usb driver, specifically sw from Eltima Serial over Ethernet Software. Uninstalling via the uninstaller itself did not help. I had to delete everything related to Eltima in the registers (eltima usb serial etc etc), only then did UFPi work correctly.
So check in device manager --> universal serial bus controller if you don't have any driver that controls your USB besides the default USB Masstorage device and USB root hub

BTW: i too still use win7 64b with extended support patch
